Planning Checklist
When a loved one passes, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. This checklist guides you through the immediate steps and funeral arrangements.
Immediate Steps (First 24 Hours)
1
Legal Pronouncement of Death
If at home under hospice care, call the hospice nurse. If at a hospital/facility, staff will handle this. If unexpected/unattended, call 911.
2
Arranging Transportation
You will need to choose a funeral home to transport the body. You do not need to make final arrangements yet, just transportation.
3
Notify Family & Close Friends
Start a phone chain. Asking a close friend to handle notifications can relieve burden.
